Lend

Lend in Salzburg (Austria).

Lend is a village in the Pinzgau area of Salzburg. It has a population of approximately 1,500. Lend is situated in the Salzach river valley; it is therefore well-connected to the motorway and railway network. However, Lend is by no means a very touristy place. Its economy depends rather on the vicinity to Schwarzach and St. Veit, two economic powerhouses of the area, as well as Taxenbach.

Lend makes an accessible and reasonably good basis for hiking excursions into side-valley of the Salzach river valley. One of the closest valleys to Lend are those followed by the Rauriser Ache river and the Gasteiner Ache. Note the gorge of Kitzlochklamm and mount Bernkogel for further hiking opportunities.

For sightseeing, note Burg Klammstein, an old castle close to a hydropower plant. This power plant utilises the Gasteiner Ache river - water falls through a pipe over a distance of 163 metres and hits three turbines with extremely high pressure. Power generation is an important economic factor for Lend, but also the aluminium plant nearby, which runs this specific power plant for the supply of its company with energy.
