Salzburg Photos: Jesus on Crucifix

A crucifix at the Franciscan monastery (Franziskanerkloster) right at the city centre of Salzburg. In many corners of the city you will find small and rustic scenes like this one. Individually, they are usually not examples of great art, but taken together, these small shrines, depictions of saints and Biblical scenes, sgrafittos and frescoes add greatly to the over-all impression of Salzburg as a Catholic/Baroque theme park. They encourage visitors to stroll through neighbourhoods with few or no tourists (as far as those exist) and explore these little references to Baroque worship and culture.
