Salzburg Photos: Kollengienkirche (COllegiate Church)
return to "winter photos"

The Kollegienkirche or Collegiate Church
was built in the late 17th
century/early 18th century under the chairmanship of the famous architect Johann
Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. It served as a church to the
University of
Salzburg, which occupied (and now again occupies) a building right next to the
Kollegienkirche. Many of the presidents (Rektoren) of Salzburg University were
buried in the church. It is the most elaborate and splendid of Fischer von
Erlach's churches in Salzburg and in our personal opinion, his most important
work. Note the rich stucco work inside the church.
