Messezentrum Salzburg (Exhibition Centre)

The Messezentrum is a conference, fair and exhibition centre in the northern part of Salzburg, in the district of Liefering, to be precise. It is a modern facility that is well-connected to the motorway and which has secured Salzburg a reputation as an important exhibition centre with regular fairs dedicated to hunting, technology, fashion (traditional clothing in particular), tourism and other fields.

Today′s Messezentrum was completed in 1974. It was a joint effort of the city of Salzburg, the state and the chamber of commerce. The first development step included three exhibition halls, another one followed one year later. In 1976, another two halls were opened. Today. The Messezentrum Salzburg extends over 15 exhibition halls, all of them equipped with modern facilities and all the structures needed for state-of-the-art fairs.

Most of the fairs are organised by a company that is internationally active in conventions and fairs; another significant player is the "official" company that operates the Messezentrum as a venue; but there are also several other companies that organise events. Individual halls can be rented for product presentations, balls or other occasions that require a lot of space. The Messezentrum comes with a parking lot that offers space for about 4000 cars.

In 2002, the Messezentrum was extended and the Salzburgarena was opened. This large hall offers seats for up to 6.710 people and is used for sport events, concerts, and the recording of TV programs. The development of the Salzburgarena has helped the area to improve its general appearance; traditionally, this corner of Liefering is considered to be a particularly shabby part of Salzburg.
