Salzburg Photos: Salzach River Banks
return to "summer
photos 2"
Chestnut trees flank the Salzach River banks along the city centre of Salzburg.
On the other side of the river you can see the two towers of
St. Markus, one of
four churches that were designed by the Baroque super-star architect Johann
Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The other three are the
Kollegienkirche (Collegiate
Church), the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church)
and the Krankenhauskirche
St. Johannes (within the main hospital of Salzburg). Fischer von Erlach also designed several secular buildings in Salzburg, but he is mostly associated with
Vienna, the city where he became the first artist to be elevated to the rank of
a nobleman for his merits in architecture.
