Salzburg Photos: Dom (Cathedral) & Christmas Market
return to "winter photos"

Throughout late November and
December until Christmas, the
Christmas
Market around the Salzburger Dom (cathedral) is the most important meeting and
mingling spot in the city. This picture was taken on
Residenzplatz. Locals meet here for after-work drinks (typically a
cup of mulled wine or punch, a mix of rum and tea) or for warming-up drinks
prior to Christmas parties. For more elaborate purchases, we advice visitors to
avoid the Christmas Market - unless it is for local crafts that you won't find
elsewhere, the Christmas Market stands are usually significantly more expensive
than the supermarkets or other shops that you will find in the outskirts of
Salzburg. For general advice on where to buy things in and around this city,
read our article on "Shopping in Salzburg".
