Salzburg castle, the Fortress Hohensalzburg


 
Salzburg Castle or the Fortress of Hohensalzburg was started in the 11th century. Its prominent location on a hill overseeing the Salzach River Valley has made it an iconic feature for Salzburg. Salzburg Castle is a key-attraction and popular all year round: It includes a museum, restaurant and exhibition venues; during the Christmas season, a traditional Christmas market is held in the Fortress.
