Salzburg Snow Shuttle:
Bus links from the city to skiing areas
The so-called "Salzburg Snow Shuttle" is a bus service that provides subsidised transport from the city centre of Salzburg (Mirabellplatz) to a skiing area in the south. Most of these skiing areas are in the Pongau and Pinzgau region; some, however, are even beyond the limits of Salzburg province, such as the Tyrolean skiing metropolis of Kitzbühel. The Salzburg Snow Shuttle runs daily from December (typically from just before Christmas) until early March. The subsidy means that a return ticket will cost you a relatively low 14 Euros.
Every day, the Salzburg Snow Shuttle goes to another skiing resort - this makes it the ideal option for someone who wants to travel to Salzburg for a few days of sightseeing and then discovers that one, two or three days of skiing in a variety of resorts would also be nice. The following towns are scheduled for the Salzburg Snow Shuttle: Monday to Wednesday Flachau and Ebenau; Thursday Kitzbühel; Friday Schladming; Saturday Gastein; and Sunday Zell am See or Kitzsteinhorn. All of these places are among Austria′s finest ski resorts. Ski rental services are available at all of them and the guide on the Snow Shuttle Bus will know where to go with such needs. You can book your seat in the Salzburg Snow Shuttle via the Salzburg Tourism Office, at Salzburg.info.
There are two spots where you can hop on the "Snow Shuttle": The Europark at 8 a.m. (this one is more likely to cater for people from the surroundings of Salzburg, who will find this spot convenient because it is right next to a motorway exit); and the Mirabellplatz at 8:30 a.m. In addition, there are pick-up services available from several hotels in the city of Salzburg.
Rides to the skiing area depend in length on the destination and range between 50 and 90 minutes. Return journeys start at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. Special rates apply for the Monday destinations of Ebenau/Flachau: If you purchase a skiing ticket in these towns, the ride on the Snow Shuttle is free. It is generally free for children under the age of 4.
