Save money on your holiday

Summer is just around the corner and if you haven′t booked a holiday yet then you better get cracking. Despite all the economic doom and gloom, we all still want a week in the sun, and let′s face it, if this summer is anything like last year you better look outside of the British Isles if you want good weather.

Europe is still your best bet if you′re on a budget but for a real bargain look outside the Euro zone in countries in Eastern Europe such as Slovenia and Croatia. These countries have beautiful countryside; they′re steeped in history and have stunning coastlines. Food and accommodation here is cheap and flights even more so, thanks to low-cost carriers extending their reach across the European continent.

In the past, you may have felt like a holiday in Eastern Europe would leave you feeling a little disconnected from the world. Using your mobile phone to call home used to cost the earth, but now it seems mobile phone networks have finally caught up with the times and are offering much more competitive rates on call charges and text messages, meaning that your trip to Eastern Europe really won′t break the bank.

Even so, you may have less money this year than previous years, so what is being done to make things easier on the purse strings?

Thankfully this summer, many of the big network providers are offering special promotions on international call charges so our phones can get a cheap summer holiday too. Vodafone is probably offering the best deal. It has abolished its 75p roaming charge from 1 June to 31 August, meaning Vodafone customers can use their mobile overseas as they would at home; in 25 European countries as well as far-flung destinations such as Australia and New Zealand. This makes a big difference in Eastern European countries where public phone boxes and internet cafes are very hard to find outside the capital cities. It′s not just calls and messages to the UK that benefit. You won′t be charged extra to call within the country you are visiting. This makes booking little extras like that romantic dinner for two a little easier.

Take a look at the Vodafone website to take advantage of this promotion - they offer all of the latest handsets, such as the new HTC, available on pay as you go and contract.

Now that the phone part is sorted out, you′ll have more cash to spend elsewhere. So you can treat yourself to that extra bottle of wine and not worry about missing out on anything back home. So go on, send that message back to your stressed-out colleagues about your lazy days doing nothing by the pool.
