Skiing is big business in Salzburg, and especially the two regions of
Pinzgau
and Pongau are economically dependent on winter tourism. Skiing areas of
particular significance include the
Salzburger Sportwelt, the
Hochkönig area,
Obertauern, the
Großarltal, the
Gasteinertal, the area of
Zell am See / Kaprun and
Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm. For each of these areas, you will find
individual articles that will guide you to even more specific articles on the
municipalities and communities within them. In order to diversify, skiing areas
often try to add on other sports and activities: Winter hiking is shown here;
but there are often also culling, skating, tobogganing, cross-country-skiing and
horseback riding available. Let alone the apres ski party scenes of towns such
as Obertauern or Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
