The Salzburger Dom Cathedral and the famous Christmas Market in front of it


 
The Salzburger Dom or Salzburg Cathedral makes a great background for all sorts of events - most importantly the Jedermann play during the Salzburg Festival in summer and the Salzburger Christkindlmarkt (Salzburg Christmas Market) in the weeks from late November to Christmas. Goods for sale include all sorts of local crafts, traditional snacks and Christmas ornaments as well as drinks such as punch (a mix of tea and rum with spices) and Glühwein (mulled wine). Some market stands sell more peculiar drinks, such as mulled cider (also with spices such as cloves, cinnamon or sugar) and even mulled beer. After all, Salzburg is closely tied to Bavarian culture and part of the Southern German/Austrian/Bohemian "beer belt".
