Salzburg Photos: Mozart Museum

This picture shows the facade of the Mozart Geburtshaus in the Getreidegasse, the famous Mozart Museum of Salzburg. When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born here, the building did not belong to his family. It was the property of the wealthy Hagenauer family, a dynasty of local merchants. Leopold Mozart only rented an apartment, which now serves as the main part of the museum. This part of the building can be seen from the Universitätsplatz, the square in front of the Kollegienkirche. The Mozart Museum is one of the top-attractions of Salzburg and draws ten thousands of visitors every year. The back-side of the building (the one shown here) is less busy than the front end: The Getreidegasse is Salzburg's most famous shopping lane for luxurious goods and it can hard to get through the crowds. Especially in summer you should expect to wait for a while until you finally get into the Mozart Museum; that being said, the Hagenauerplatz in front of the building is packed with shops which might offer distraction during the waiting time.
