Salzburg Photos: Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church)
return to "winter
photos 2"

The Trinity Church of Dreifaltigkeitskirche is a late-Baroque church that is
used by the priest seminary of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The
Dreifaltigkeitskirche was designed by the famous Baroque architect Johann
Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, who was also responsible for the Salzburg churches
Kollegienkirche (in our opinion his masterpiece), the
Markuskirche, and the
Krankenhauskirche St. Johannes. The Dreifaltigkeitskirche is part of a Baroque
ensemble - or rather, was part of one. Most of the
Primogeniturpalast palace was
demolished after the war to create space for the
Mozarteum Art University. The
late 19th century saw the arrival of Historicist buildings, note for an example
Hotel Bristol, the pale-yellow building in the left part of the picture. And in
recent years, ever-growing traffic is harming the appeal of the area. For
details on the square in front of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche, read our article on
the Makartplatz Square. Note
Schloss Mirabell Palace in the background, just
behind the cupola of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche.
