The adoration of the Virgin Mary is a key feature in Catholic faith and culture. Such features were underlined during the age of Baroque, when artwork became important for communicating religious doctrines. The enormous lead statue in front of the Salzburger Dom Cathedral clearly shows to things: The significance of Mary as a focal point of worship and the wealth and power of the principality and diocese of Salzburg.
